Government employees said they can’t sign anti-Fitial petition

E-mail Print

SOME government employees interviewed by this reporter said they can’t sign the online petition asking Gov. Benigno R. Fitial to resign because they may lose their jobs.

Fifteen employees of the Department of Public Works, the Department of Public Health and the Department of Land and Natural Resources — all voters — requested anonymity.
They said they really want to sign the petition “but our job is not worth the signature.”
“If I could include my signature on the online petition then I will be the first to do it, but I will also need a new job in a private company,” one of the employees said.
Another employee said she voted for the governor but now she wants him impeached.
However, she added, “I do not want to be involved in any issue about him.”
As of yesterday, only 57 employees signed the online petition which was launched  by a former resident last month following the disclosure that a federal detainee was brought to the governor’s residence so she could massage him.
Rick Vaugn said he is expecting more signatures.
The online petition, which can be seen at http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?fitialgo, also allows signatories to express their opinions about “massage-gate.”

0 #9 matanbonelus 2010-02-10 02:17 No BRAINER here very few signatures because no one wants to lose their jobs. Heller it's not even one year into KING FITIAL or EMPEROR FITIAL's dynasty and you want people to get strung up by their nuts…NAAAH

0 #8 DoTell 2010-02-10 02:14 It is sad that civil servants are so beholding to the Governor's whims, but we know that already. The trick will be to find a way for people to be able to express their true feelings and vote their heart instead of their livelihood.

Unfortunately this will probably come when the voting demographics favor the US born children of guest workers and US mainland transplants. Then non NMD candidates could be elected and locals will be left wondering what happened. Get smart people, clean up the government!!!

0 #7 Dora 2010-02-10 01:49 Two words: NO BALLS… and you want to know why you people cant seem to progress. You all are pathetic. How about you stop thinking about yourself and "Your Jobs" and think of the island…or is this the island pride you all are so found of espousing

+4 #6 rmuna02 2010-02-09 23:18 Come on.. it's not like you have to put your real name! Anonymous would be fine… just sign it if you really want him out… at least to show everyone how many people do want him out.

It's just a matter of time before he get's arrested anyway… As one of them said in that website: "First your running mate stole from CUC, then your driver was busted for ICE, now your massue is a Human Trafficker. And to top it off you ordered the release of a Federal Detainy."

The guy is a magnet for criminals… but of course, he was connected to Willie Tan and Abramoff for a long time!!!! Plus, didn't he steal all that land from HIS OWN FAMILY MEMBERS?!

The only thing the guy is good at is lying and stealing from his own people… more people need to wake up and realize that - over 6,000 have!!!

0 #5 the teacher 2010-02-09 22:12 I predicted less than 100 signatures.

Those who didn't sign due to fear are without honor and courage.

0 #4 MrCoffee 2010-02-09 20:08 it's called a civil service system… check it out, it's very "First-World" The US ramped it up after President Garfield was assassinated by a guy with no qualifications who wanted to be the consul to Paris. Yup… the spoils systems creates those kinds of problems… but here's what Garfield said at his inauguration in 1881…

"The civil service can never be placed on a satisfactory basis until it is regulated by law."

Too bad Benigno cares little for U.S. history.

The island way never changes. So what else is new to this soap opera of a story? Huh? Anybody there. . .

-16 #2 guesswhat 2010-02-09 16:43 Good for those who signed the petition. The evidentiary hearing has been quashed by Judge Munson. Now what will these signatories do. Look for another job.
