Co-defendant identifies Dandan armed robber

By Cherrie Anne E. Villahermosa

IT was his “reluctant” co-defendant who told authorities that 20-year-old Anthony DLG Campos was the armed man who robbed the Dandan store last month.
The Attorney General’s Office has charged Campos with robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Chief Prosecutor Jeffery Warfield Sr. stated in the information filed in court that Campos, on Oct. 24, did unlawfully take $386 from Jenny’s Mart in Dandan.
The information stated that Campos attempted to cause bodily injury to Hui Min Shen with a dangerous weapon — a machete.
Campos was arrested on Nov. 3 at 9:30 p.m. in Koblerville after a minor told authorities that he saw a baseball bat, a wig and a mask in the back of Campos’ vehicle.
The police affidavit submitted in court stated that Campos’ co-defendant, John Mafnas, admitted that he was picked up by Campos that evening prior to the robbery.
Mafnas told investigators that Campos parked the vehicle by an abandoned house across from Jenny’s Mart and handed a mask and a baseball bat to Mafnas.
Mafnas said he asked Campos what were they going to do and Campos said that they would rob the store.
Mafnas said he refused but Campos insisted.
The affidavit stated that Campos then put on the wig and mask.
Campos is now in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
The court has imposed a cash bail of $150,000.
Campos has also been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and theft for conspiring with co-defendant Weider Debengek to enter Smile Poker in Chalan Kanoa on March 26, 2007 and take $5,576 from the poker establishment.
Campos was likewise charged with robbery and theft for taking $5,000 from KB poker in Koblerville on March 26.
These charges are still pending in court.
Investigators are still trying to determine if Campos is also responsible for other armed robberies in October.
