Veterans honored with high school diplomas

By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

MOST island veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict were not able to finish their high school education. The late Senator Tony Unpingco knew that, and introduced a bill that would give veterans their diplomas.
That bill became Public Law 28-40.
Through P.L. 28-40, the “Onra I Manfåyi Program” was established and, yesterday, Veterans Day, these men were honored by the Guam Public School System and the Veterans Affairs Office with high school diplomas.
The ceremony was held at the Governor’s Complex in Adelup.
Those veterans who were not able to attend the ceremony yesterday can pick up their diplomas at the Veterans Affairs Office in Asan between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
