SIX people escaped a serious auto accident with minor injuries Saturday afternoon in Hagatna near the Agana Shopping Center. Involved in the accident were two children, one woman, and three men.
According to Guam Memorial Hospital nursing supervisor Jennifer Cruz, five individuals involved in the accident were treated for minor injuries and released.
The sixth individual, a man, was transported to the Naval Hospital in Agana Heights. As of press time, the man’s condition was not known.
At 2:14 p.m. Saturday, the accident was reported to Emergency 911 on Route 4 near the Agana Shopping Center (Payless Supermarket side), according to Guam Fire Department spokesperson Angel Llagas.
Responding to the accident were Medic 1, 3, 5 and 11, Mercy Medic, ALS 2, Engine 1, Scout 2, Rescue 1 and 2, and the Northern Commander, Llagas added.
According to Guam Police Department officers, a 1990 Nissan pickup truck attempted to make a turn into the shopping center and in that effort, lost control of the vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic. At this point, the truck slammed into a gray 2004 Ford Focus.
Preliminary GPD reports on the accident showed that the three men in the truck may not have been wearing their seat belts, which may have caused them to be ejected from the vehicle.
It has been said that the rain might have been a factor in this accident as the roads where the accident took place were slick.
The case remains under GPD investigation and no citations or arrests have been made. It was also not known as of press time if speed and alcohol were contributing factors.
There are 19 traffic fatalities that have taken place on Guam’s roadways so far this year.
