American Samoa cabinet member Taeaoafua dies

PAGO PAGO (RNZI/Pacnews) — A member of the American Samoa government, Taeaoafua Dr. Meki Solomona, has died at age 63.

His wife said he collapsed at his desk Tuesday.

Taeaoafua was a high school principal, a director of commerce, and a government and community liaison for StarKist Samoa.

A former radio personality, he emceed many public events and was regarded as a future leader of the territory.

He was once a candidate for lt. governor which was his only foray into public office.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter and two grandchildren.
