As a public figure herself and a businesswoman, Salas said “it is always a privilege to meet in person the leaders of the Micronesian region at special events like this one.”

She added that the forum’s  opening ceremony was “beautiful.” She appreciated the welcoming remarks, the cultural chant and dance.

“It was a room filled with hope and friendship. There are so many issues that need to be addressed at this forum and I hope and pray that in the end, our leaders will find solutions that will benefit our islands.”

Participating in the forum are the presidents of the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia, and the governors of Guam, the CNMI and the FSM states of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap.

A native of Chuuk, Coin Nethon, was wearing a cultural attire when she attended the first day of the forum with her friend Arlene Silva.

Nethon hoped to meet FSM President Peter Christian up close, but she missed the chance to do so.

She also plans to attend the Okeanos Marianas and 500 Sails event set for Saturday, April 28.  “I will wear my best dress and mwar to represent my culture and, hopefully, I can pose for photos with the island leaders. I am proud of my island culture. I know people will know  I’m Chuukese because of my attire.”

Saipan is the host of the 23rd Micronesian Islands Forum which is being held from April 25 to 27  at the Fiesta Resort & Spa.
