American Samoan governor says all avenues explored on LBJ ice case

PAGO PAGO (Talanei News/Pacnews) — American Samoan Gov. Lolo Moliga has given assurances that everything is being done to solve the case of the seven packages of high grade crystal methamphetamine found in the LBJ Hospital mail more than a week ago.

The governor told KHJ News that what was found illustrates how serious the drug problem is and he assures residents that the government is exploring all avenues to resolve the case.

Because of the nature of the investigation, the governor said he cannot divulge too much information.

But he said appropriate agencies are working on the case and he didn’t rule out federal involvement.

KHJ News understands that the House Health Committee plans to call in the LBJ Hospital CEO and procurement division manager for a hearing about the drugs in the LBJ mail.

There were seven packages containing ice addressed to various divisions of the LBJ Hospital and also the Department of Health and the community health center in Amouli.

According to the LBJ CEO a package that was addressed to the Nursing Division was returned to the LBJ Procurement Division by the nursing director because nursing didn’t place such an order.

The package was apparently vacuum packed and sealed.

Upon receiving the returned package the Procurement Division informed the hospital CEO and police were contacted.

A subsequent test confirmed that the white crystalline substance in the package was ice.
