India, Palau to strengthen diplomatic ties

KOROR (Palau Horizon) – India is strengthening its diplomatic relationship with Palau through forging of cooperation in several areas.

Indian Ambassador to Palau Rajeet Mitter in an interview said that the India government are offering specialized courses in Information Technology that can benefit Palauan nationals.

“We welcome participation of Palauan nationals in that area,” Mitter said.

Mitter was one of the foreign dignitaries who attended the recent Independence Day celebration of Palau.

Mitter said Palau and India forged a diplomatic relationship in 1995, since then the India government has provided the country several grants over the years.

Among the grants provided were kitchen utensils for the Belau National Hospital use and scholarship opportunities.

He said recently a course in India was opened to Palauan diplomats.

“Palau and India has forged a close friendly relations, the actual bond of the two countries are its commitment to democracy and an open society,” Mitter said.

Palau he said in an inspiration to other nations who is committed to economic development but at the same time protects its environment.

India, he said is also grateful to Palau for the support it has given its government in the international arena such as the United Nations and the Pacific Island Forum.

In Palau there are about 15 Indian nationals, Mitter said.
