Maritime law enforcement training conducted in Pohnpei

POHNPEI, FSM (Australia in Micronesia) — The Australia government is funding maritime law enforcement training in Kolonia, Pohnpei. The training is being conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard for the Maritime Wing of the FSM National Police.

Australian Ambassador to the FSM George Fraser attended the opening session on Feb. 15, 2016, and was joined by Doria Rosen, U.S. ambassador, and Lt. Col. Richard Watson, Australian defense attaché, along with 15 crew members from the FSM’s three Patrol Boats — FSS Independence, Palikir, and Micronesia.

The maritime law enforcement training will be conducted over a two-week period by the U.S. States Coast Guard mobile training team. The training is specifically tailored to FSM objectives and includes fisheries protection, counter-narcotics, FSM national maritime laws and international treaties. This is the second training conducted for the FSM funded through Australia’s Pacific Patrol Boat Program.
