Palau’s Remengesau leads presidential vote count

KOROR (Pacific Note/Pacnews) — Palau’s President Tommy Remengesau Jr. has taken the lead in the presidential race as final results await absentee counting next week.

After the tabulation of votes from the other states in Palau on Wednesday, Remengesau, leads with 4,108 votes over his brother-in-law Senator Surangel Whipps Jr with 4,030 votes.

For vice president, Raynold “Arnold” Oilouch leads with 4,133 votes against rival Yositaka “Yosi” Adachi with 3,900 votes.

More than 2,900 absentee ballots were sent out with a Nov. 8 deadline to be counted.

The results of the absentee counting will be known on Tuesday next week.
