Mikey Bustos and Palau’s entertainment scene

ON Sept. 15, 2017, the Palau Visitors Authority held one of the biggest and best night markets at Ernguul Central Park. Close to 4,000 locals and visitors were entertained by Midzenty High School students, the Ngermid dancers, local singers Hailey, Bayano and Tamara whose upcoming new album “Tres” is dedicated to one of Palau’s best singers, her mother Tresa Rdulaol.

The night’s theme was “Oldies but Goodies,” and the entertainers included Mikey Bustos, a Filipino-Canadian singer and comedian who travels the world, staging concerts and making fun videos/vlogs. He has starred in the reality television show “Canadian Idol” and owns AntsCanada, an online shop that specializes in ant-keeping.

Bustos had an incredible time at the night market in Palau. He met many new friends and felt so much love from the audience. He also joined cultural dancers on stage and learned the traditional way of thanking the dancers by giving out money or “sengk.”

According to the chief editor of Tia Belau newspaper, Mickey Bustos’s special appearance was organized by the newly chartered Filipino Association of Palau to raise funds for the group.

The night market also included 25 vendors who offered handicrafts, jewelry, great food and refreshments.

The night market is a program to support small local businesses. The Palau Visitor Authority said the next event, Independence Day Night Market, will be held on Sept. 29, 2017 at Ernguul Central Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., local time.
