College Access Challenge Grant Summer Academy

THE Summer Academy, which is sponsored by the College Access Challenge Grant at Northern Marianas College, is a program for high school juniors, seniors, and college freshman who are given the opportunity to take college classes and participate in college and career exploration activities.

The academy will begin on June 29, 2015 and end on Aug. 7, 2015. During these six weeks, students will have the opportunity to earn transferrable college credits, receive academic advice and tutoring, and experience college life. Some of the topics that will be covered are the registration process, different types of financial aid, and how receiving a college degree will benefit you.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for students to get a head start on college,” says Hedwig Hofschneider, the coordinator for the Summer Academy. “Also, for those who are incoming freshmen at the college it will help with the transition from high school to college. Those who join the Summer Academy will have a great opportunity to meet students from other schools and students from Tinian and Rota as well.”

There will be a Parent Info Session on Saturday, April 18, at NMC’s As Terlaje campus in Room D-1. The Info Session incudes presentation from the College Access Challenge Grant staff and former Summer Academy students. There will be representatives from the Financial Aid Office, the Office of Admissions and Records, and the Counseling Department. In addition, the Info Session offers assistance if you have questions about the application process.
