1st Annual Rota Coffee Marathon on April 14

(MVA) — The Marianas Visitors Authority will inaugurate its latest signature event with the 1st Annual Rota Coffee Marathon on April 14, 2018.

Highlighting coffee plantations from the Japanese administrative era of the Marianas in the first half of the 20th century, the race course will feature the unspoiled natural beauty of Rota.

“Rota is renowned for its picturesque views and unmatched island hospitality, and adding to the Rota Blue Triathlon held each November, the Rota Coffee Marathon will provide another opportunity for athletes to visit the island,” said MVA Managing Director Christopher A. Concepcion.

The race, jointly organized by MVA, KFC Triathlon Club Japan, the Rota Mayor’s Office, and the 16th Rota Municipal Council will feature three distances: 42.195K (7 hour time limit), 21K (no time limit), and 10K (no time limit).

“Rota wild coffee is a wonderful resource for tourism and the economy in Rota,” said KFC Triathlon Club Japan president Kiyozaku Onishi, who has helped launch the Rota Blue Triathlon and other sporting events in The Marianas. “The Rota mayor’s office said the coffee berries just changed to red from green this week, and they have more plans to display coffee for visitors and local people.”

Regestration is $60 for the 42.195K, $50 foe 21K, and $40 for 10K. The entry fee includes a t-shirt and awards party. Prizes will be awarded for the top three Men and Women finishers and for age categories.

The pre-race briefing for all applications will be on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 6:30 p.m. at Rota Resort & Country Club. The awards party will be held at Rota Round House at 5:30 p.m. on race day.
