Skymark flies Saipan flights for Japan’s Golden Week

(MVA) — On the heels of its inaugural charter flight to the Marianas on March 22, 2019, Skymark Airlines is giving more Japanese travelers the opportunity to visit the islands with four charter flights on April 27-30, 2019, during Japan’s Golden Week holiday.

The flights to the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport commenced last Saturday, April 27. Passengers were greeted with the Chamorro Man’Antigo dance troupe, while PDM Promoters, the Saipan Awaodori dance troupe, 2019 Miss Marianas Celine Cabrera, and Mariana-chan presented shell leis and Saipanda backpacks to children.

“It’s exciting to have a Japanese flag carrier back in the Marianas during Golden Week, one of the biggest holiday travel periods in Japan,” said Marianas Visitors Authority acting Managing Director Judy Torres. “Japan’s new emperor has ascended to the throne this week, and the Marianas warmly welcomes our Japanese visitors and is looking forward to a new era of tourism friendship with Japan under Emperor Naruhito.”

Golden Week, a collection of four national holidays over a seven-day period, is especially long this year due to the 2019 Japanese imperial transition, with the succession of Emperor Naruhito on May 1 designated as an additional national holiday.

Nearly 600 passengers arrived via the daily flights from April 27 to 30, 2019, which also included a production crew from TV Tokyo that covered the first flight arrival.

Skymark’s first charter flights to the Marianas from March 22 to 27, 2019, marked the airline’s first international route.
