November is CNMI Veterans and Military Families Month; Nov. 5-11, Veterans Week

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios on Tuesday signed a proclamation designating November as CNMI Veterans and Military Families Month and Nov. 5-11, 2019 as CNMI Veterans Week.

Palacios said the proclamation will remind the community about the sacrifices made by individuals who serve the nation, and their families.

“We need to continue to recognize members of the armed forces who have served and continue to serve our nation to protect our communities,” Palacios added.

As for servicemembers who are dealing with the after-effects of war and the family members of military personnel who “made the ultimate sacrifice” — “I hope we can address the issues that they continue to face,” Palacios said.

The CNMI has more than 1,000 servicemembers and veterans, the proclamation stated.

“We salute their services, honor their sacrifices [in] supporting this nation in every hour of need,” the proclamation stated. “And we acknowledge that freedom’s cost continues long after the guns fall silent. Many of our veterans bear the disabilities and scars of military service. The families of those who never returned from their service live always with a profound sense of loss. It is our duty to remember what our veterans have done and to uphold our commitments to them and their families.”

The community is invited to observe Veterans Day on Nov. 11 at the American Memorial Park Court of Honor.
