THE Zoning Office’s zero-junk vehicle program for the island is expected to start at the end of this month, according to Zoning Board Chairwoman Herminia Fusco.
At the same time, the Zoning Office is encouraging inputs from the community that might improve the language of the zoning law, or changes to the current zone boundaries.
“In an effort to facilitate discussion and avoid duplication of efforts each Zoning Board member was assigned certain sections of the zoning law to look at and to come up with the suggested amendments or recommendations,” Fusco said.
The zoning office staff members are also working on recommendations.
The staff’s recommendations are a critical part of the process since the staff deals with the law on a daily basis, Fusco said.
The Zoning Office has also extended the deadline for the request for expressions of interest to participate in the islandwide junk vehicle removal and recycling program to Feb. 19, 2010.
“Even though we received several expressions of interest, we still wanted to get more recycling companies to participate. Also, the procedure for implementing the law is in the process of being finalized by the acting zoning administrator [Therese Ogumoro] and the Zoning Board’s attorney,” Fusco said.
“The original start date of the program was Jan. 1, but it is now targeted to start in the last week of February. The Zoning Office will publish the approved list of the selected company or companies and will advise the public of the start date of the program,” Fusco explained.
