Destroyers to face Marianas Water in 8-ball pool championship

THE Last Shot/IT&E Destroyers and Bamboo MJD Marianas Water will vie for the Tuesday Division championship of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser Open 8-Ball League after beating their respective opponents in the semifinals Tuesday.

The Destroyers had a tough fight against Bamboo Club 88 Str8Ball but they managed to secure the win late in the match, 9-5.

Str8Ball fought like there was no tomorrow with Rey Hermogenes and Jess Guierra working together to notch the Partners 8-Ball game.

But the Destroyers retaliated in the individual exchange with Nolan Cultura and Jeff Garcia pulling away for a 2-1 run followed by another win by team-mates Cultura and Rey Panangay in the second Partners 8-Ball match to give their squad the lead, 3-2.

Str8Ball tried to stay alive but failed to stand their ground as Destroyers Rolly Villanueva and RJ Mascarinas added two more wins before Str8Ball could stop the bleeding.

Str8Ball then earned two consecutive wins, but their rally ended when the Destroyers unleashed a 3-0 run of their own to vanquish Str8Ball, 9-5, and advance to the finals.

Bamboo MJD Marianas Water vs Arcee 9Eleven Hustlers

Bamboo MJD Marianas Water scored an upset victory over second seed Arcee 9Eleven Hustlers 9-6 to secure the other final slot.

The Hustlers established control early with Chester Hamoy and Mark Butac clinching the opening partners match to build momentum.

Marianas Water tried to douse the fire  but they could not keep up as the Hustlers maintained the lead with a 2-1 run in the Singles 8-Ball match.

But Marianas Water were relentlessness and they bounced back with a 4-0 run in the next two games to seize the lead, 5-3.

The Hustlers tried to fight back but Marianas Water fought harder to notch a 3-0 run.

To their credit, the Hustlers continued to put up a fight and earned two more points before losing to Marianas Water 6-9.
