REY Hermogenes is the first to secure a championship spot in the October New Bamboo Bar 8-Ball Monthly Tournament after plowing his way to victory with an undefeated record Friday at the New Bamboo Bar of Saipan Vegas.
Hermogenes knocked down every opponent in his path. His ability to pocket balls from any range was his biggest strength as he dispatched Jerry Soriano and Danny Miranda to reach the semifinals.
Hermogenes’s next opponent, Albert Pangilinan, proved to be a tougher opponent, forcing Hermogenes to use smart placements in order to play defense and line up his next shots.
After several exchanges, Hermogenes managed to pull away to secure victory and reach the final round.
While Hermogenes sat and waited for his opponent, Ray Matsunaga was working his way up after losing to Albert Pangilinan in the first round.
In the loser’s bracket, Matsunaga had to face and defeat four opponents before facing Pangilinan in a rematch. This time, Matsunaga was triumphant which earned him the right to face Hermogenes in the title match.
Despite Matsunaga’s valiant efforts, however, he just could not stop Hermogenes’ momentum.
Hermogenes systematically connected all his shots to win the match and secure his spot in the championship that will be held at the end of the month.
