GRACE “Pitu” Sablan-Vaiagae is a resident of Precinct 3, the chairman of her Republican campaign team said on Saturday.
John Tagabuel said Sablan-Vaiagae used to live in Precinct 4 but moved back to Precinct 3 in January.
He noted that Sablan-Vaiagae’s candidacy for the vacant House seat has been certified by the Commonwealth Election Commission.
An NMI Democratic Party supporter, Fabian Indalecio, expressed concern about Sablan-Vaiagae’s residency.
In response to Indalecio’s Open Government Act request, CEC Executive Director Kayla S. Igitol provided him a copy of the document submitted and used to validate a candidate’s residency in a given precinct.
Igitol said on Saturday that no one had challenged CEC’s decision to certify Sablan-Vaiagae’s candidacy.
The special election will fill the House seat of the late House Republican leader Ivan A. Blanco.
Sablan-Vaiagae’s opponent is Corina L. Magofna of the NMI Democratic Party.
The early voting period started on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will continue through Friday, Oct. 15.
The polling site location is the Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
On special election day, Oct. 16, the polling places will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
The polling places are:
• Precinct 3A (San Jose) Oleai Elementary School cafeteria (enter south entrance and exit north entrance).
• Precincts 3B-1 and 3B-2 (Garapan) Garapan Elementary School cafeteria (north entrance gate).
