Congressional Hispanic Caucus endorses NMI Legal Residence Relief Act of 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CHC) — The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has endorsed H.R. 560, the Northern Mariana Islands Legal Residence Relief Act of 2021, introduced by CHC member U.S. Congressman Gregorio “Kilili” Camacho Sablan of the CNMI. The bill would allow certain Commonwealth-only Transitional Workers or CWs and foreign investors with five years of Marianas permanent residence the ability to apply for U.S. permanent residence. Additionally, it would ensure Mariana permanent residents and CWs have access to relief assistance following natural disasters.

“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus  is proud to endorse the Northern Mariana Islands Legal Residence Relief Act of 2021, introduced by CHC member Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan,” said Chair Dr. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif.

“Northern Mariana Islands long-term workers, investors, and their families are crucial members of the U.S. Commonwealth who contribute to our economy by increasing GDP and raising wages. They deserve an opportunity to contribute more fully to our society, which includes being granted a pathway to citizenship. I thank Congressman Sablan for his leadership in ensuring the people of the Northern Mariana Islands have a fair shot at a pathway to citizenship.”
