KANOA Football Club won the U15 Boys Division championship of the Youth League Summer 2021 after a nail-biting goal late in the second half to edge the Tan Holdings Football Club, 2-1, on Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
The title match was filled with excitement as both teams gave it their all from start to finish.
It only took the first five minutes of the game for the ball to reach the back of the net as THFC’s Anthony Austria drew first blood.
However, THFC’s celebration was short-lived as Kanoa swiftly retaliated three minutes later thanks to Chris Daikichy who evened the score 1-1.
For the rest of the first half and for most of the second, neither of the teams was able to gain the upper hand.
With little time left, it seemed that the game would be decided by overtime penalty kicks, but Kanoa’s relentlessness finally paid off at the 61st minute mark.
In the midst of a scuffle, Kanoa managed to create a shot opportunity that allowed Leland Deleon Guerrero to execute the game-winning goal and secure the championship for his team, 2-1.
Also on Saturday, Matansa Football Club dominated Paire Football Club 14-0. Matansa’s top scorers were Phillip Megino and Isaiah Hoosain who contributed six goals apiece.
