Palacios approves funds for Rota scholarship assistance

ACTING Gov. Arnold I. Palacios on Friday signed into law House Local Bill 22-1 to appropriate $40,000 in reserve account funds for the Rota Municipal Scholarship Foundation.

Authored by Rep. Donald Manglona, H.L.B. 22-1, which is now Rota Local Law 22-1, also allocates $20,000 of the reserve account for student housing assistance.

It is the first local appropriation measure enacted this fiscal year for Rota.

The Rota Legislative Delegation passed the bill last month, along with H.L.B. 22-2, which appropriates $60,000 in poker licensing fee collections for the medical subsistence allowance of the hemodialysis and terminally ill patients on Rota; and H.L.B. 22-6, which appropriates $21,272 of Rota’s share of e-Gaming license fee collections for the inter-island medical referral stipend of Rota patients and their escorts.

In an interview, Sen. Paul A. Manglona said the Rota delegation “really appreciates acting Governor Palacios’ acting promptly on our local bills as they will go a long way to helping our students and inter-island patients from Rota, as well as our hemodialysis and terminally ill patients.”

H.L.B. 22-1, he said, will provide scholarship funding to Rota students “who are also struggling financially just like their parents during these difficult times.”
