THE Department of Public Safety said it has taken possession of a vehicle believed to be related to the death of a 20-year-old woman whose body was found on the shoulder of a road in Marpi on July 27 at around 10 p.m.
In a statement, DPS added that its officers continue to work diligently on the case.
According to DPS, its investigators have questioned persons of interest involved in the case, and after following up on the numerous leads and information given through the interviews, call-ins, or anonymous tips, police were able to execute warrants critical to the case.
The case is still under investigation, DPS added.
“In an effort to prevent any possibility of jeopardizing the case, more information and updates will be given later. The department asks that the public and the media be mindful of the family during this time,” DPS said.
It “highly encourages the public to call 911 anytime to report a crime or an emergency. If you would like to remain anonymous, please call the CNMI Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272. Our officers are here to help you.”
An autopsy will be conducted on the victim this Friday, Variety learned from other sources.
DPS did not identify the victim, but multiple sources said she was Sophia Patricia Aldan Demapan.
The victim sustained multiple fractures with severe injuries to the head, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services said.
