THE Senate on Thursday confirmed the nomination of former Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar as the new Department of Public Lands secretary.
He was appointed by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres on May 19, 2021.
All the nine senators present voted to confirm Igisomar’s appointment during a session conducted at the Tinian Court House.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, presented his panel’s report recommending Igisomar’s confirmation.
He said the committee has examined all pertinent documents relating to the appointment of Igisomar as well as his credentials.
Cruz said his committee finds that several recommendations, issues and concerns were brought to the attention of Igisomar who was required to provide the panel with an update on the status of these matters 90 days after his confirmation.
Cruz said based on the overall assessment of Igisomar’s credentials, experiences, testimonies, goals for the department and other relevant issues, the committee is convinced that Igisomar has the qualifications and leadership skills necessary to serve as DPL secretary.
Igisomar chaired the NMI Retirement Fund board of trustees before he was appointed Commerce secretary. He was elected to the Senate in a special election in 2014 and was reelected in 2016. In 2020, he narrowly lost to Edith Deleon Guerrero.
