JOSEPH Torres and Ezekiel Macario of the United Badminton Club triumphed over the Community Badminton Club’s Ferdie Arago and Jeffrey De Silva in the A Men’s Doubles Category of the IT&E Badminton Tournament on Saturday at the Ada gym.
It was an intense match with UBC establishing control early in the first set.
Teamwork was their biggest asset as Macario played the role of the supporter using aggressive returns to force CBC to retaliate with lobs, giving Torres countless opportunities for the kill.
As soon as Torres found his rhythm, he could not be stopped, scoring nine points in a row while Macario added the finishing touches to secure victory 21-11.
Despite UBC’s strong start, CBC still had a lot of fight in them and it showed in the second set.
After several exchanges, Arago and De Silva adjusted their offensive strategy with great communication and teamwork to win the second set, 21-15.
CBC’s duo, however, failed to stay on their toes in the third and final set.
UBC’s Torres and Macario applied pressure that gradually broke down CBC’s defense, allowing Torres to deliver the finishing blows.
Scoring eight consecutive points, Torres gave his team a comfortable lead while Macario added the icing on the cake to defeat CBC 21-12.
UBC now has a one win, one loss record in the tournament.
