USDA approves Tinian slaughterhouse opening, says mayor

TINIAN Mayor Edwin P. Aldan said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved the opening of the Tinian slaughterhouse.

“The slaughterhouse will be officially opened on Aug. 13,” he added.

At the same time, he is inviting community members to join the first annual Beef, Beer, and Band Festival at the Tinian Fiesta Grounds on Aug. 13, 14 and 15.

“We wanted to promote the hard work of our Tinian cattlemen, and to highlight our local beef, so we came up with another signature event for the island,” the mayor said.

The Pika or Hot Pepper Festival in February and the San Jose Fiesta in May are the two other signature events of Tinian.

Mayor Aldan led the delegation from Tinian that attended Rep. Ivan A. Blanco’s state funeral on Saipan, Thursday.
