McDonald’s donates $1K for Liberation Day fireworks

McDONALD’S Restaurant Saipan on Wednesday donated $1,000 for the Liberation Day fireworks show on July 4.

McDonald’s executive assistant to the president Mable Ayuyu handed the check to Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang.

Ayuyu said McDonald’s is excited to again support the Saipan mayor’s office in putting together a fireworks show for this year’s Liberation Day celebration.

She said it is important that the community celebrate the Fourth of July.

“We always know that the mayor’s office does a really great job of putting together community events,” she added. “That is really nice and we are committed to support the mayor’s office. I am really excited about the fireworks.”

Apatang thanked McDonald’s and the Ayuyu family for always supporting the community.

He noted that this is the second year that island won’t be able to hold the  Liberation Day parade due to safety protocols in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But at least this year, he said, “we will have fireworks that people can watch from a distance.”

The mayor said McDonald’s “came forward as always — they are always helping the community.”

Hopefully, next year, the mayor said, “if everything goes well, we can have a big Liberation Day celebration.”

This year, the mayor plans a 15- to 20-minute fireworks display.

In 2020, Liberation Day was celebrated virtually via Zoom.
