TRUE North Covid 8 holds the top spot in the Saipan Electronic Darts Association Bud Light Inter-Government League after defeating 6JMS DOC High Risk 9-6 on Friday at True North Bar & Grill.
It was not an easy battle as High Risk established early control. Franklin Faisao, Anthony Malwebug, Mariano “Sii Mar” Satur and Colin “Sii Boboi” Kileleman excelled in one-on-one matches, sweeping the opening 301 Double In/Double Out round to notch a 4-0 lead.
However, in team play, Covid 8 soared with Hank Magofna and Hector Efraim winning the first round of the Partners Crazy Cricket while team-mates Julian Matsutaro and Cart Sablan snatched the second round to cut High Risk’s lead.
High Risk tried to maintain the upper hand, splitting the Partners 501 Double In/Double Out, but Covid 8 found their rhythm in the Singles Regular Cricket round with Nobert Pua, Magofna and Matsutaro scoring 3-1 to tie the game 6-6.
In the last two rounds of the night, Covid 8’s team chemistry proved to be better than High Risk’s as Covid 8 stayed on the offensive to win the remaining matches and clinch victory, 9-6.
True North Dart Magic vs True North CUC PowerGen
Also victorious was True North Dart Magic which edged True North CUC PowerGen 8-7.
Both teams played as equals, splitting the first six matches, 3-3. But in the Partners 501 Double In/Double Out round, Dart Magic’s Carlos “Corona” Cervania and Allan Vila along with Elton Santos and Martin Dela Cruz outscored their opponents to gain the lead 5-3.
PowerGen tried to get back in the game but fell short, losing 7-8 to Dart Magic.
6JMS CNMI Guardians vs True North Responders
In another nail-biting match, the CNMI Guardians outlasted the True North Responders 8-7.
The Guardians started strong with a 3-1 run in the 301 Double In/Doble Out round thanks to James Tudela, Paul “The Flash” Quizon and Frank Sablan.
But the Responders’ John Inacio and Jayon “The Fire” John split the Partners Crazy Cricket round while team-mates Mike “Spanky” Dela Cruz and Elija Villar likewise split the Partners 501 Double In/Double Out round.
The Responders’ momentum continued to build as they scored 3-1 in the individual matches to tie the score, 6-6.
In the face of the Responders’ almost epic comeback, the Guardians kept their heads cool and delivered a two-win sweep in the Partners Half-It round to secure victory, 8-7.
