RB Camacho: Parole supervision not an easy job

CNMI Board of Parole Chairman Ramon B. Camacho said parole supervision is not an easy job because parole officers deal with convicted individuals.

And it’s not about enforcement only because parole officers also have to provide guidance to convicted individuals, he added in his remarks during the proclamation signing for Pre-trial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week at the CNMI Board of Parole office on Capital Hill, Monday.

Camacho at the same time thanked the Torres-Palacios administration, the Superior Court judges, and other stakeholders for supporting programs that help parolees.

He said the criminal justice system should not only focus on prevention and apprehension, but also on rehabilitation and education.

Camacho said the Community Guidance Center and the HOPE Recovery Center are some of the community programs that help rehabilitate parolees.

He noted that a parolee who had served 20 years in jail has just been certified as an emergency medical technician.

“This is the result of the programs that we have established in the community,” Camacho said as he asked CNMI officials and stakeholders to continue to work together in supporting programs that support parolees.
