New landmark sign built for Capitol Hill park

IN yet another move to make the most of this downtime caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, a brand-new landmark sign has been constructed at Capitol Hill Recreational Park on Capital Hill.

The project was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of the administration, the office of Rep. Joel Camacho, the office of Rep. Angel Demapan, and the Department of Public Works.

Camacho, who has taken the lead in numerous beautification projects throughout Precinct 4, said almost all the projects his office implemented for the precinct were funded directly by his office.

When his office ran out of funding, he reached out to the administration.

The office of Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios provided materials for the construction of the sign, while Camacho’s office provided the manpower.

“He wanted to support this project and I am so thankful for that,” Camacho said, referring to the lt. governor.

As for the letters for the sign and the mural background, they were painted by Camacho and Demapan.

For its part, the Department of Public Works prepared the site for the construction of the sign.

Camacho said he plans on doing some landscaping around the sign and plant flowers to further beautify the area.

“I am continuing to push forward with beautification projects because they benefit our community, beautify our islands and promote  tourism, which is the only industry we have at this time,” Camacho said.

“Although I believe we can create newer and more sustainable industries, we need our tourist industry to flourish to build the capital needed to start another industry, such as agriculture or aquaculture, ecotourism, etc.,” he said.

“Everything ties into building an economy and tourism is what gives us that opportunity to build a strong economy,” he added.
