INSTEAD of hosting a single night of festivities to celebrate their 15-year class reunion, members of the Kagman High School Class of 2006 are marking this year with a wide array of community service projects and class fundraisers.
From holding beach cleanups to bake sales, the KHS alumni are banding together to give back to their community that has given them so much throughout the years.
Ashley Reiko Pangelinan, chairperson of the KHS Class of 2006 reunion board, was beaming with pride as she shared her excitement over the events that the board has in store, not just for the alumni class, but for the local community as well.
Every month, the class will participate in weekend beach cleanups, with supplies provided by Young Gunz.
This past weekend, they held a bake sale and a garage sale, raising more than $600 for the class reunion.
Whatever did not sell was donated to the Ohala Foundation, Pangelinan said.
She said the class had been very close-knit since high school, noting that they were the three-time undefeated champions of their high school pep rallies, from their sophomore to senior years.
After graduation, they decided to hold a class reunion every five years.
“Ten years was just too long for us to wait to be together again,” Pangelinan said.
For their 15-year reunion, the class decided to hold the gathering on Saipan, in October, just in time to usher in the holiday season.
The members of the class, although residing in various places across the globe, keep in touch as best they can, even by supporting each other’s small businesses.
Pangelinan, for instance, is the owner of Pualani Crown in Saipan, a local small business known for its eye-catching handmade and customized flower crowns.
She said she ensures that businesses owned by the alumni class are promoted and supported on the class’ social media account on Instagram.
“I just want us to be like the way we were back in high school…. Our class was really good. We all worked together and supported each other. I want to bring that back,” she said.
Pangelinan hopes that the class raises enough money to provide a memorable experience for all members of the alumni class to attend free of charge.
To her classmates, she said, “Just come to have a good time. You don’t have to come to any of the social events before then, but just come to the reunion. That’s all I’m asking.”
The reunion will include various activities, such as games, raffles, and even live entertainment by some members of the alumni class who are musicians.
