Governor to form workforce development board

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres has started the process of creating a State Workforce Development Board.

U.S. Public Law 113-128 or the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act mandates the establishment of the board to, among other functions, “develop a statewide workforce development plan with the primary objective of supporting a comprehensive and streamlined workforce development system in the Commonwealth.”

According to the federal law, board members must include stakeholders from both private and public sectors as well as members of the House and Senate appointed by their respective presiding officers.

In accordance with the requirements of the federal law, the governor has requested Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider and Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez to appoint a member of their respective chambers to serve a two-year term on the State Workforce Development Board.

“I look forward to working alongside your appointee to develop a sustainable workforce plan that would address the Commonwealth’s labor challenges,” the governor said.
