MAN Amigos are the pennant champions of the Belau Amatuer Softball League thanks to PeLeLiu’s 12-8 victory over SUFA on Sunday at the Dandan baseball field.
At first, PeLeLiu and SUFA played as equals with the score even at 2-2 after the first two innings.
However, at the top of the third, PeLeLiu suddenly took over. Almost all of its players reached home base starting with Jones who connected a double and later scored a run thanks to Mark’s follow-up triple.
Mark, Alvin, Mabel, Walt and Ben then contributed five additional runs while Manny snuck in a single-run homer to spread the gap 9-2 before SUFA could stop the bleeding.
SUFA did answer back at the bottom of the third inning, but could only score two runs before going silent in the next two innings.
PeLeLiu, for its part, kept the momentum burning with two runs with the help of Alvin and Walt collecting an RBI each and later scoring one more run at the top of the sixth inning to extend PeLeLiu’s lead.
SUFA fought back in the seventh and final inning with three runs as Paul earned an RBI bringing home Calvin while Audie connected a two-run homerun to close the distance.
Fortunately for PeLeLiu, its players were able to shut down the offensive assault to seal the deal, 12-8, and end SUFA’s quest for the pennant.
Mommy Charu vs Hagu Lamun
Mommy Charu also joined the winner’s circle as its players held their ground long enough to outlast Hagu Lamun 11-10.
Mommy Charu’s consistency was the key to victory as its players scored two runs and added seven more at the end of the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead.
But Hagu Lamun was not to be counted out early as its players returned in the sixth inning hungrier than ever.
Due to countless errors on Mommy Charu’s end, Hagu Lamun’s Tim, Dennis and Eric sparked a rally as they slipped past home base for three consecutive runs which were followed with four more runs in the seventh inning to bring the team back in contention.
However, Mommy Charu’s outfield was reliable enough to secure fly balls and getting the three outs needed to stop Hagu Lamun and clinch victory, 11-10.
