BOE approves PSS reorganization

THE Board of Education on Friday unanimously approved the Public School System’s new organizational chart that will take effect in the next school year.

Based on the new organizational order, which Education Commissioner Alfred B. Ada presented to the board, Finance and Procurement and Supply were merged and placed under the commissioner’s office.

Finance and Procurement and Supply were previously under the administration of the associate commissioner.

The other divisions that remain under the associate commissioner are Accountability, Research and Evaluation; Curriculum and Instruction; and Student Support Services.

Also under the associate commissioner’s administration are Pupil Transportation, Facilities and Development Management; Child Nutrition Program; and School Environment.

Besides school principals and vice principals, the following are under the commissioner’s office: Human Resources, Federal Programs, Instructional Technology/Distance Education, State Infrastructure Technology, Family and Community Engagement/Media, and Special Education.

In an interview, Commissioner Ada said the commissioner is the expenditure authority of the funds. He said it is also the commissioner who works closely with the Department of Finance pertaining to local funds for PSS so it is proper that its Finance division works under the commissioner’s office.
