Sen. Manny Gregory Castro
SENATOR Manny Gregory Tenorio Castro last week introduced Senate Bill 24-38, proposing to rename the Department of Public Safety Boating Safety Building at Smiling Cove Marina in honor of retired law enforcement officer Jose “Bade” Camacho Sablan, who started the DPS boating unit.
The bill states that Sablan’s achievements — after nearly 20 years of service as a sworn officer in blue, protecting the NMI community — “underscore the importance of continuous professional development in law enforcement, where evolving challenges demand a proactive approach to learning and leadership.”
Sablan’s accomplishments, S.B. 24-38 further states, serve as an inspiring example of how dedication to personal and professional growth can contribute to the overall safety and well-being of the community.
Sablan, who began his journey as a police officer in 1977, was promoted to police captain in 1980 and later became assistant police chief for the Boating Safety Division. His numerous achievements and training certificates, the bill says, not only highlight his dedication to sharpening his skills to best serve the community, but also demonstrate his commitment to enhancing his leadership in order to effectively support his fellow officers.
