THE Public School System’s former chief financial officer, Richard Francis Waldo, passed away on June 10 at the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. after suffering a heart attack. He was 78.
He will be buried on June 22 — not June 18 as earlier announced — at the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi. Prior to the internment, there will be a viewing at St. Jude Church in Koblerville from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by a Mass from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Waldo is survived by wife, Ednalyn, and children Maria Elizabeth, Richard Jr., Joy Anna Marie and Joshua Allen.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, Waldo was also an educator. He taught mathematics, history, social studies, language and arts at various CNMI elementary, middle and high schools. He obtained a doctorate in business management and accounting from Argosy University.
Waldo was an algebra instructor at Northern Marianas College before he was hired by PSS to be its chief financial officer in Aug. 2009. From August 2012 to July 2018 he was an associate professor of accounting and business at NMC.
Prior to his passing, Waldo served as an educational consultant for PSS while teaching first to fifth grade students at Kagman Elementary School.
Mrs. Waldo said her husband will always be remembered by his students, friends and family for his generosity, kindness, intelligence and sense of humor.
