David, Sangalang, Hermogenes qualify for 8-ball championship

THREE more players have earned spots in the June 8-ball championship of the New Bamboo Bar at Saipan Vegas: Randy David, Cesar Sangalang and Rey Hermogenes.

Randy David emerged victorious in the qualifying event on Thursday.

He started strong by defeating Jesse Guerra, but against Senen Pangilinan, David fell short.

He then fought his way back to contention by dispatching Santi Sablan and outlasting Joey Lucido.

In his rematch against Senen Pangilinan, David obtained redemption and his third consecutive win.

Next on his list was Cesar Sangalang who went down in defeat against David.

In the finals, David faced the undefeated Ray Matsunaga.

Matsunaga, however, could not maintain efficiency as David took over the first game of the match.

In their second and decisive game, David exhibited accuracy and smart defensive placements en route to victory and a ticket to the championship round that will be held at the end of the month.

Cesar Sangalang joined the elite on Friday with a flawless performance.

He was an unstoppable force as he defeated, one after the other, Rey Hermogenes, Vinvin David and Nolan Cultura before barging into the finals.

Jerry Soriano lost his second round match and had to reach the finals by eliminating Danny Miranda, Vinvin David, Jesse Guerra and Nolan Cultura.

In the finals, however, Soriano could not match Sangalang’s prowess.

The latest championship contender is Rey Hermogenes who bested Guerra, Sangalang and Matsunaga before losing to Sangalang in a rematch.

But Hermogenes  defeated Matsunaga again to earn a third match against Sangalang. This time, Hermogenes slowly and methodically dropped the balls to notch the win and the ninth spot in the championship round.
