LITO Mendoza won the June ace tournament of the Filtaga Golf Club on Thursday, June 17, at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Mendoza had a stellar performance throughout the day, starting with a gross score of 40 on the front nine. Although he had a slight hiccup in his transition to the back nine, he still managed to hold a steady stroke, completing the final nine holes with a gross of 42 for a total gross score of 82. With a handicap of 17, Mendoza’s net score was 65 which secured him first place and the title of June Ace of the Month.
In second place was Tony Cabrera who shot a gross of 45 on the front nine and followed through with a score of 47 on the back for a total gross score of 92. Thanks to a handicap of 22, he earned a net score of 70 which was good enough for second place.
Following behind was Hak Chon Bae who scored 44 on the front nine and 42 on the back for a gross total of 86. Aided by a handicap of 15, he scored a net of 71 to settle for third place.
Ruben Avendano also had a net score of 71 but he was bested in the scorecard playoff and so he ended in fourth place.
As for the side events, three players won awards in the Nearest to the Pin Challenge: Lito Mendoza, Mike Cruz and William Retardo.
With his victory in the ace tournament, Mendoza now joins the other Filtaga aces: Henry Bautista, Dan Ganacias, Eli Buenaventura, Tony Cabrera and William Retardo.
