DEPARTMENT of Public Works Secretary James A. Ada on Monday issued a notice to proceed to Hawaiian Rock Products general manager David L. Bush regarding the Route 35 — Tun Herman Pan Road or Airport Road —improvement project.
“The contract performance time is 240 calendar days to complete the road improvements based on the scope of work developed under the DPQ21-IFB-003 package,” Ada said.
The completion date is Jan. 4, 2022, the notice added.
Any additional work not included in the original contract scope must be approved by the DPW secretary through an authorized contract change order prior to commencement of the work.
“Do not rely on any other form of verbal written approval to perform any additional work,” Ada said. “Any and all expenses incurred prior to the approval of a properly executed contract change order may not be eligible for reimbursements.”
Ada at the same time congratulated Hawaiian Rock for being awarded the contract for the project. “We look forward to a successful working relationship with your office,” Ada added.
Last month, several Airport Road residents attended a Coastal Resources Management public hearing to air their concerns about a proposed road reconstruction project that they said may damage their properties.
The residents said if DPW could not build an off-site drainage system in the area prior to the reconstruction of the road, then it should only be allowed to resurface the road.
CRM said it would take into consideration the residents’ concerns.
