14 advance to 8-ball tourney finals

FOURTEEN players have secured their spots in the finals of the New Bamboo Bar April 8-Ball Tournament that will be held this Sunday at the New Bamboo Bar of Saipan Vegas.

Among them are Mervin Sahagun and Rey Hermogenes.

Sahagun clinched a finals spot on Tuesday, April 13, as he bulldozed his way through the double-elimination format tournament with ease.

In round 1, Sahagun defeated Rey Hermogenes. In the succeeding rounds, Sahagun dispatched Ray Matsunaga, Senen Pangilinan and Roman Rodriguez to reach the last round.

Senen Pangilinan, who fell into the pits in round 3 after losing to Sahagun,  fought his way back by eliminating Rowel Mariano, Cesar Sangalang, and Roman Rodriguez to set up a rematch with Sahagun.

Sahagun then quickly disposed of Pangilinan to claim victory and lock in a spot in the finals.

Rey Hermogenes’s road to the finals was also highlighted by a 5-0 record.

He bested Jesse Guerra, Sangalang, Jerry Soriano and Joseph Achas to reach the last round.

Soriano earned the right to a rematch, but Hermogenes triumphed once again to earn his finals berth.

Joining Sahagun and Hermogenes in the championship this Sunday are Albert Pangilinan, Ray Matsunaga, Cesar Sangalang, Marvin Achas, Nolan Cultura, Jess Guerra, Jerry Soriano, Randy Sablan, Senen Pangilinan, Jess Farinas, Danny Miranda and Ben Norita.
