2024 tax refund disbursements update

(DOF) — The Department of Finance has officially disbursed an additional 15,245 tax refund checks for the 2024 tax year, totaling $23.10 million. This means a significant number of taxpayers have already received their refund and the process is still ongoing.

If you haven’t received yours yet, don’t worry, additional refunds are being processed as individual reviews are completed. This often happens in batches, especially when the department is verifying eligibility or resolving discrepancies.

Reasons for tax refund to be delayed

There are quite a few reasons your tax refund might be taking longer than expected. Here are the most common causes:

• Errors or Incomplete Information

• Typos in your Social Security number or bank account details

• Missing forms like W-2s or 1099s

• Math mistakes or incorrect calculations

• Additional review or verification

If you claim certain credits (like the Earned Income Tax Credit), the DRT may take extra time to verify eligibility.

Mismatches between your return and previous tax records (e.g., income reported by your employer) can trigger a manual review.

For updates on the status of your refund, contact the Division of Revenue & Taxation at (670) 664-1040.   Be ready with:

• Your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number

• Your filing status (e.g., single, married filing jointly)

• The exact refund amount shown on your return

• A copy of your tax return for reference
