BRILLIANT Star School and Tinian Elementary School students finished first in several track and field events on Friday and Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
In the U12 age group of the McDonald’s-PSS All School Elementary Track & Field championships, the hard work of Aiden Camacho and Moshe Sikkel gave Brilliant Star School 10 gold medals as they ruled the entire category.
Right from the start, Camacho displayed his strength and leaping ability. He led the softball throw as he covered a distance of 40.45m beating Oleai Elementary School’s Sherman Camacho who finished second with 39m while Rota Elementary School’s Kaykoa Hocog was third with 36.5m.
Aiden Camacho earned his second gold medal in the long jump event, marking a distance of 4.08m, surpassing Agape Christian School’s Danny Cheng, 4.06m; and Rota’s Tryon Pinaula, 3.22m.
Camacho also dominated the sprints. In the 100m event, he finished first with a time of 14:02, followed by William S. Reyes School’s Chris Sablan (15:44) and Saipan International School’s Landon Pudney (15:69).
In addition, Camacho topped the 60m sprint by clocking in at 8:76 to defeat Rota’s Prudencio Manglona (10:19) and Tinian’s Jerdon Cruz (10:44).
In the long-distance events, Sikkel was unbeatable. He topped the 1500m run by clocking in at 6:25 while ACS’ Danny Cheng (6:37) came in second and SIS’ Finn Altizer (6:49) was third.
Sikkel also reigned in the 800m with a finish time of 2:51, beating Danny Cheng (3:01) and Landon Pudney (3:28).
Sikkel earned his third gold medal in the 400m race where he clocked in with a time of 1:04 slipping past Danny Cheng (1:15) and Brilliant Star’s Akeen Edvalson (1:25).
In the 200m run, Sikkel finished first with a time of 28:37, beating Landon Pudney (32:16) and Tinian’s Jerdon Cruz (34:11).
Spotlight
Tinian had its fair share of the spotlight in the U9 age category, starting with the softball throw event. Tinian’s Calen Borja threw a distance of 30.65m while WSR’s Damian Sablan came in second at 29.35m and Tinian’s Chad Palacios was third with 26.4m.
Tinian also topped the 1500m distance with Jun Young Seo finishing first with a time of 7:03 followed by Quido Jambor (7:04) and Saipan Community School’s Andre Guerrero (7:25).
Borja earned his second gold medal for Tinian in the 200m race with a finish time of 33:74 beating schoolmate Jun Young Seo (34:07) and SIS’ Jude Rayphand(34:41).
Borja likewise topped the 100m race with a time of 15:83, defeating Jude Rayphand (16:33) and SIS’ Quido Jambor (16:79).
In the 800m run, SIS finished first thanks to Jude Rayphand who clocked in at 3:19 followed by Rota’s Bradley Pinaula (3:27) and Brilliant Star’s Evan Poole (3:32:03).
Rayphand added another gold medal for SIS in the 400m race, clocking in at 1:26 to beat WSR’s Landin Reyes (1:30) and schoolmate John Paul Binghit (1:38).
In the 60m sprint, KES took over with Jayton Dela Cruz in first place with a time of 10:38 while Jeffrey Pangelinan was second with 10:63 and Tatum Jones was third with 10:81.
