KAGMAN High School topped the men’s and co-ed divisions of the 2021 Public School System Interscholastic Outrigger Race Points Series on Saturday at Kilili Beach.
Kagman’s men roster consisted of Noah Mesa, Elbert Pinaula, Christian Achas, Achas Kabriel, Jericho Jones, Jacoby Cabrera, Joedy Pinaula, Andrew Camacho, David Igisiar, Sebastian Muna, Max Cruz, Richard Cepeda, and Oliver Weilbacher.
They dominated the preliminary round of the 1000m category by crossing the finish line with a time of 00:06:06.690.
The Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays (00:06:13.690) followed behind while the Marianas High School Dolphins (00:06:16.690) came in third.
In the final round, the KHS Ayuyus were unstoppable, finishing first with a time of 00:06:06.890 while MHS (00:06:09.700) bested SSHS (00:06:20.530) to finish second.
With a total of 80 points, KHS stood tall in first place to claim the perpetual trophy in the men’s division.
Co-ed division
KHS likewise reigned supreme in the co-ed division. The Ayuyus on the team were Alisa Gatharngeg, Jenisha Dubrall, Davin Kim, Danika Tagabuel, Megan Barnes, Wallis Bai, Clarissa Tagabuel, Kiara Nekaifes and Kata Iakopo
They had a tough battle in the prelim, but gathered enough momentum to finish first place with a time of 00:06:52.380, defeating MHS (00:06:57.810) and SSHS, which was disqualified for knocking down a flag.
But in the final round, the SSHS Manta Rays made up for their error with a first place finish, clocking at 00:06:38.570. KHS (00:06:47.370) was second while MHS (00:07:10.050) placed third.
Overall, however, with a total of 54 points, KHS remained in first place and took home another perpetual trophy.
The team captain of the KHS men’s team, Noah Mesa, told Variety: “This is my last race and I’m super proud of my team. I would not have it any other way. I owe every single win to my coach [Jason Tarkong]. I just want to thank everybody. I had a great three years!”
