WHETHER the goal is to lose weight, build lean muscle or enhance performance output, it could only be reached by focusing on a specific training program, says Jerry Diaz, a certified National Academy of Sports Medicine personal trainer.
If the goal is weight loss, he said it will come down to nutrition. “The individual must follow a strict and consistent food intake and energy output program,” he added.
If the goal is to build lean muscle, a balanced food intake combined with strength and conditioning training is a must, Diaz said.
And if one is aiming for performance enhancement, Diaz said the individual must focus on lengthy development.
“As a former competitive athlete myself, I am amazed at how progressive training can lead to physical transformation and enhanced performance,” he added.
“But again, one must focus on maintaining one’s training program to eventually see desired results.”
As a personal trainer, Diaz assesses each client’s fitness and nutrition needs before he identifies training priorities.
He said some individuals may already have good strength and conditioning, but may require food energy management to maintain their performance levels and avoid fatigue and energy depletion.
Other clients may have healthy eating habits already, but may require a finely tuned training program to get them closer to their fitness goals.
According to BBJ Athletics client Marjorie Olleres, “Even during difficult times, one must stay focused. One must be consistent and determined to meet one’s individual fitness goals.”
If one stays focused, Diaz reiterated, then one will experience the benefits of transformation.
“We all have an opportunity to find the best version of ourselves with an appropriate focused training and nutrition program. But whether it is training at the gym, garage or park, the individual must allow time for the transformation to begin by remaining focused on one’s fitness goals.”
