Saipan mayor reappoints 2 SHEFA board members

SAIPAN Mayor David M. Apatang has reappointed Oscar M. Babauta and Juan K. Tenorio to the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance board of directors.

Babauta is the current chairman of the board while Tenorio is the vice chairman.

Their terms expired on Nov. 8, 2020.

In separate letters to the chairman of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, Senate Floor Leader Vinnie Sablan, the mayor said he was pleased to reappoint Babauta and Tenorio so they can serve another two-year term.

Their nominations require the delegation’s confirmation.

Apatang also submitted copies of the nominees’ statements of financial interest, police clearance, drug test receipt, and résumés. The drug test results will be submitted to the delegation as soon as they come out, the mayor said.

He said he is confident that Babauta and Tenorio are highly qualified and “will work well on the reforms that SHEFA needs to implement to better achieve its goals and mission.”

Apatang said he humbly asks the delegation to confirm the nominees.

A former Speaker of the House, Babauta has been a SHEFA board member since April 2015. He was also appointed in January 2021 to the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. board of directors.

Tenorio is the manager of Jet Holdings Co. and Auntie Mag’s Catering Services.

The other members of the SHEFA board of directors are Raymond M. Muna, Kaelani Demapan and Francisco D. Cabrera.
