PELELIU and Man Amigos emerged triumphant in the Belau Amateur Softball League games held Saturday at the Dandan baseball field.
PeLeLiu was the first to taste victory thanks to a strong start against Angkaur.
PeLeLiu opened up the scoreboard right off the first inning with James and Mark filling up the bases, hoping to get a run in after just two at bat.
Angkaur then countered with two consecutive outs, but Ben’s sacrifice fly gave PeLeLiu team-mate James enough time to reach home base to gain their first run.
Angkaur had a tough decision to make as its players tried to stop the bleeding but they left PeLeLiu’s Mark unattended which allowed him to steal a run.
Angkaur’s players made sure they were not to be counted out so quickly as they answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning.
Angkaur’s Taylor and his quick reflexes opened up the chance to rally as he connected a single which earned him two RBIs bringing in team-mates Teo and Darwin to tie the game, 2-2.
But PeLeLiu quickly regained control in the next inning. This time, the team went on an all-out offensive with five runs.
James and Mark started the assault, each earning an RBI single.
Angkaur tried to step up its defensive performance with two outs, but PeLeLiu managed to score three more runs as James and Mark earned an RBI each while the other run came off an error on Angkaur’s end, pushing the PeLeLiu lead, 7-2.
Angkaur did not complete the second inning empty handed as its players retaliated with three runs of their own highlighted by Stanly’s RBI double.
PeLeLiu, however, delivered eight more runs in the top of the third for a comfortable 15-5 lead.
Angkaur did a great job defensively as its players kept their opponents silent in the fourth and fifth innings, but they struggled to get back within reach and could only score four runs.
With PeLeLiu leading 15-9, its players added the finishing touches in the sixth inning with three more runs. Angkaur’s players added three runs of their own, but these weren’t enough. PeLeLiu won 18-12.
Man Amigos vs Hagu Lamun
The Man Amigos, for their part, blanked Hagu Lamun, 17-0.
Seven runs were made in the opening inning by the Man Amigos with Bill Camacho taking the spotlight as he connected a grand slam that brought in Eric, Pete Sablan, Manny and Bill Camacho himself.
Team-mate Fuji also shared the limelight with a single homer.
The Man Amigos continued to display their dominance with five more runs in the second inning, this time with Manny making the three-run homerun while Mark Toves contributed with a two-run homer of his own.
They only got better as the game progressed with Alvin, Eric, and Bill A. joining the homerun club.
The game ended in the fourth inning with the Man Amigos way ahead, 17-0.
