KAGMAN High School ruled the men’s and co-ed divisions of the 2020-2021 Public School System Interscholastic Outrigger Points Race Series, but Marianas High School was triumphant in the women’s division on Saturday at Kilili Beach.
Coached by Ed Johnson and assistant coach Mike Johnson, the MHS team members are Aleena Ada, Tianna Aldan, Xyrene Apostol, Tiara Cepeda, Margarette Dolotina, Haeven Hocog, Angella Maratas and Mikaela Vergara.
In the preliminary round of the 1000m category, the female Dolphins were in sync as a team as they paddled through the water in rhythm and with precision to snag first place with a time of 00:07:06.250.
Kagman High School (00:07:28.250) came in second place and was the only other team in contention after the Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays forfeited their races due to shortage of participants.
The finals round was no different as the MHS Dolphins continued to power their way through the course to take first place once again with a time of 00:07:17.710 while the KHS Ayuyus settled for second place with a time of 00:07:24.400.
In the 500m category, power and control were the key to MHS’s success as the Dolphins made sure they stay ahead.
They topped the prelim with a time of 00:03:24.000, outclassing KHS which came in at 00:03:34.980.
In the final round, MHS claimed first place with an even quicker time of 00:03:17.670 while KHS was second with a time of 00:03:30.880.
For their flawless performance, the Dolphins were awarded the perpetual trophy of the women’s division with a total score of 77.
KHS was in second place with a total score of 53 points while SSHS was third with 15.
