Woman arrested for choking girlfriend

MAE Ann Danan was arrested by the Department of Public Safety for choking her girlfriend in a domestic dispute on Wednesday evening.

Danan, 22, was charged with strangulation, interfering with a domestic violence report, disturbing the peace, and kidnapping.

The victim told police that she and Danan were arguing in their bedroom when the defendant snapped and used both hands to choke her.

She said Danan also disconnected the Wi-Fi in their San Antonio apartment so the victim could not call anyone.

The victim said she begged Danan to allow her to leave the apartment, but the defendant threatened to kill her dogs with a pocketknife if she tried to leave.

Danan appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho in the custody of the Department of Corrections at a bail hearing on Friday.

Judge Camacho imposed a $5,000 cash bail on the defendant who was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.

Danan was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections and was ordered to return to court for a preliminary hearing on March 31 at 10 a.m. and on April 6 at 9 a.m. for her arraignment.
