Mobil changed its prices on Friday and Shell Marianas followed suit on Saturday.

The prices went up 10 cents for all three kinds of petroleum: Regular gas to $4.30 a gallon, premium gas to $4.75 a gallon and diesel to $4.48 a gallon.

Saipan resident, Kirk Jones said: “This seems excessive when you consider [that the governor] lifted the price freeze on Dec. 4, 2020 when the gas price was $3.78 a gallon.”

But “two and a half months later, we are at $4.30 — a 14% increase,” he said.

NBC 4 in southern California reported on Saturday that gas prices had “[shot] up to [the] highest level since December 2019.”

It reported that the “average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose for the 31st time in the last 32 days….”

Also on Saturday, Justin Anderson of Yahoo! Finance stated that gas prices “are coming back with a vengeance [and] are expected to see a big spike in the next few weeks, followed by more increases all the way to summer.”

Anderson likewise noted that crude oil prices are surging. “Oil in mid-February hit $60 a barrel for the first time in over a year,” he added.
