Guam: 130th Covid-19-related fatality reported

HAGÅTÑA (JIC) — The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 130th Covid-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on Feb. 7, 2021, at approximately 9:15 a.m. The patient was an 18-year-old female with no known medical history. She was admitted to the GMH Emergency Room today and tested positive upon evaluation.

“To her family and friends, Jeff, Lt. Governor Josh, and I express our condolences and sympathies. Please know you are not alone in your grief,” said Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero. “To the people of Guam, our mourning must come with action. We cannot forget the necessary precautions we need to take to keep this island safe.”

On Saturday, Feb. 6, six new cases of Covid-19 were identified out of 99 tests performed.

To date, there have been a total of 7,649 officially reported cases of Covid-19 with 130 deaths, 103 cases in active isolation, and 7,416 not in active isolation.

A total of 7,800 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine arrived on Sunday, Feb. 7, as part of Guam’s February vaccine allocation of 17,000 doses. This supply ensures an additional 3,900 individuals can be fully immunized and brings Guam’s total allotted doses received to date to 51,300. With the arrival of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines Sunday, and the 9,200 doses of Moderna vaccines on Thursday, Feb. 4, Guam’s February allocation is now complete.

The island’s CAR score as of Sunday was 0.7.

The Covid Area Risk or CAR score accounts for the incidence of new cases, how well current testing identifies these cases, and the rate of spread. The ideal long-term goal is to sustain a CAR Score of 2.5 or less, which has been shown to correlate with very low to zero Covid-related hospitalizations and deaths.
